This film is produced by ZeST (Zieg, me and Tan Yin) for our very first stop motion assignment. None of us have any experience with stop motion animation but we enjoyed working on this together, spending late nights churning out ideas for the story, having lots of coffee to take us through the night as we work on the animation while listening to oldies such as The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Bee Jees' Staying Alive and Saturday Night Fever.

Valentines Day

Happy Valentine\'s Day to all in advance! This is a cover design for a greeting card assignment from school. I thoroughly enjoyed doing it and I hope it makes your day upon seeing this

The overall size is 8cmX8cm big which is really cute and easy to keep. It is printed on a matte 270gsm textured paper. In the final print, the speech bubble is also being cut out and pasted on the card with a foam tape to create a pop out effect.

*Kindly note that the photos of the printed card is taken with my phone camera hence the color difference from the digital copy. In real life, it is the same as the digital copy.

This was done for my Intro To 3D module. Everything is done entirely by myself, due to the lack of time, this was as far as I could manage for this overly ambitious animation. Definitely, there are lots of improvement to be made...This lighthearted film shows the struggles of a student's life which I had experienced first hand. When life throws you lemons, make lemonade out of it. The above shows a bald-er version of Abby. I had wanted to achieve that Pixar or realistic hair effect unfortunately, this amount of hair strands were already starting to exhaust the computer memory so I had to find another solution to make her hair. If any kind souls out there who has seen this post and knows how to make those Pixar's type of realistic hair without exhausting the computer memory, kindly email me or comment to this post. Thank you very much!

I hardly post an entry without an artwork but I just wanted to post a thought today. It's one conference after another, one church's project after another. The very reason I am even in this industry was because I heard Him call me here. Being in the media industry, it can be very self-centered and surface when all the works you create are all about what you think, like or of your talent. Minus that away, sometimes it can feel very empty and purposeless. Many people tend to give up when they realize that earning money is hard in this field. I'm so glad to know that I am doing this not just because it's personal and that I like doing it, but it's for a greater good and purpose.

What have I been up to? I completed a video for Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre last Monday and I've got to say Motion Graphics is super fun although this is actually my first time doing it and definitely there are improvement to be made. The entire process was really pleasant, ranging from voice recording, graphics, sound editing and animating. I'm extremely grateful to my friends who helped in the narration and voice acting. She and her sisters have a really unique and pretty voice. Hopefully she will agree to help me narrate in future projects :D.

First Time doing Oil painting/painting non digitally

A week ago, I bought some plywood and oil paints, feeling all inspired to paint. However, not knowing exactly what to paint, I procrastinated. Finally, after much doodling to finalize an idea, I grabbed my paintbrush and painted with oil paints for the very first time. Glad it turns out looking quite decent although much to my regret that I did not have enough patience to paint the words out properly. I shall do a better one next time.

Conclusion: I love Audrey Kawasaki's work! I wanted to know how my friend would look like if I fuse this style into this portrait painting. I really had fun doing this. Audrey's style is so minimalistic that I feel like I'm applying makeup on my friend instead of painting it, which is very very interesting and fun. Audrey's a genius.

Finally done with 2D foundation final semester assignment. These are a few of my finals. The assignment was to change traditional asian motifs into a contemporary one. I'd decided to work on the indian's deity-Hanuman and it turned out to be really fun to work on, fusing graffiti and some chinese style to give a totally different feeling from the original Hanuman.

In winter, when food is limited, Japanese snow monkeys congregate in and around the hot spring pools for warmth and the daily supply of barley and soybeans. Rather than going for the usual “hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil” pose, these three young snow monkeys kiss and hug as a way to maintain the bonds between them and to keep warm.

Have been really caught up with school work and hence, the hiatus on my blog.
Anyway, here's the summary of my Tuesday for this week:

Matte Painting Assignment was handed in today.

Art History Exhibition show done! The style that I am supposed to work on for this work was impressionism. I am quite pleased with how this art work turned out and therefore, I am planning to hang this work on my wall. :] There really were some interesting and beautiful works displayed for this exhibition, but too bad I didn't think of photographing those works as I was busy trying to fix my art piece on the CARPETED wall. I envied those who could paste their work on SMOOTH SOLID surface unlike the place that I was given, woolly and annoying. It kept dropping off the wall despite the unbelivable amount of blue tack and double sided tape that was pasted at the back of my work. It started with only 4 blue tacks and I gradually increase the amount of it when my art work kept falling off. :\ In the end, I had to display my work on a table. All in all, the exhibition was GOOD. I heard that because everything was such a success today, our tutor teared! Hahaa, I guess no matter how slack my batch looks, all of us have a hardworking side (when we feel the deadline is drawing near).

I know this is random, but, I still want to say it.
A Yorkshire Terrier dog will be in my Bucket List. Definitely.

Once in a while, it is good to take something for fun and not serious, even if it means having to take a photo of someone who gives you the headache. People are willing to risk their health to see fireworks by breathing the cancer causing smokes produced by it. If they are willing to risk their own health just to see something that appears so briefly, why do they want to risk their own happiness just because the economy is bad? The economy will surely get well sooner or later and there's no point worrying about it. Live life because Life is to be lived. Enjoy the fireworks, enjoy your fizzy drink etc, and SMILE. Unplug yourself from all the negativeness that you hear about the economy. Work hard. Play hard.

Hi all,
I've been pretty busy with school work lately, hence the hiatus. Here's another piece of color test and sketches from me for matte painting assignment.

Practice more and the result will show.

I feel like blabbering some stuff, hence the weird writings below:

It's so hard to keep up with everyone's expectation of you especially when you've just came out fresh from the well.
The world is so big, there's so much to learn and so much to keep up, while leaving behind your old habits just so that you can
be accepted.
What you do seems so different from their ways and you have no bad intention to any of it, because you've been living in the well for ages. It is so easy to be misunderstood because you're different.
It's painful at the beginning, having to leave your comfort zone and be daring for the first time. Daring to be different from your old self because you're sick of it.

You're sick of not being able to see the world and not knowing what is good out there. Your fear of the past keeps you trap in the well, but through friends and time, you want to believe that this time round it'll be different. You want to see the bright blue sky and the sunflowers in the field. You want to feel the warmth of the sun and see the golden rays shining down from the sky.

You just want to believe that there are still good people around.

You want time so be patient and let it's character shine through time. Nurture it with encouragement and kindness. Let it start to trust and bloom.

The world is not that cold so come out from the well.

Haven't really got time for blogging since school is picking up it's pace these past few weeks and now I'm finally having a break after all these! This means more time to work on crazy characters and illustrations!

Mad painting

So i did my "mad" painting work and yet again blogged at a crazy timing and it just proved that I must be becoming an insomniac.

When the heat becomes too much for me,
You are the one I that depend on.
When it starts to get gloomy,

When it starts to get fine,
I put you aside.

The years went by,
Again and again, I depended on you when I am in need
Not realizing you're getting worn out.
I took you for granted

I came out with this sort of a poem thing while i was on the mrt, thinking about Mother's Day. Right then, I also thought about how my mom as been through with me all these years. Then I also remembered how my mom would always dye a hair black recently just to hide her grey hairs(shhh!), fall so easily asleep on the sofa while watching tv and it just daunted on me that she's no longer young (even though she's still young at heart).

I remembered the days that we played "police and thief", except that this time the police carries her baton-the cane that when we were a kid hates. Of course, no matter how nice a person is, he/she would surely have a time where they hate their mother for their naggyness etc...but there are also time where you appreciated them without really realizing it because we took them for granted.

All of us hate it when our parents reprimand us, however if we can look deeper, the only reason that majority of our parents scold us is because they love us and they really love us then what we all imagined. Besides, which parent on Earth don't love their own child? Even though there may be a generation gap between us and them, we have to remember that they're a parent for their first time! When we turned 5 years old, they're being a first time parent to a 5 year old, when we turned 13, it's also their first time being a parent of a 15 year old kid and so on. So therefore, all of us should be patient with them because they're still learning.

Have any of us wondered how life would be if your parents isn't around anymore?

No more free food that magically appears in the fridge, no one reminding you to sleep early, no one to force you to eat your fruits and veggie, no one to stand your tantrum when you really have to throw one, and no one to correct you when you're wrong when you're really wrong.

Humans are weird. We only learn how valuable is something that we detested and dread after it's gone. It's a common mistake that we all do because we never realize that one day they can just disappear from the face of the Earth without warning.
Perhaps the reason why there's such a thing called death in this world, is to teach us how to treasure the people around us because their lives aren't permanent.

Honor our parents no matter what.

This is all I have, though this gift is small, it doesn't mean that it's not good. Whoever says that being a lawyer or a doctor is the only way of living well? At the end of the day, will it make you happy working in something you don't like? Most parents would tell their kids that when they grow up, they should become a doctor or a lawyer or a professor, how many would encourage their children to be an artist, a musician, a game designer or even a photographer? Does money or working in white collar companies equate to happiness?

Living in a world that is so stereotyped in what is good or not, we often committed the same mistake of following our peers or people in doing things that we THINK is good and forgo things that we love to do. The way that an object is designed determines it's destiny. The stripes, design of it's claws and teeth on the tiger means that it's destined to be a predator. The wings on an eagle shows that it's destined to fly high and mightily in the sky, and it would be funny to see it instead of flying, it's pecking corns all day with the chickens.

Similarly, the way that we're "designed", the talents that we have and what we really like to do, determines our destiny. What are you created for? Don't know? Then ask the one above. Everyone has something that they're good at, and there's no exception. All it takes is a leap of faith.

Time flies when you're having fun and you just wished that time can stand still. Sadly, like a river always flowing forth, so is time.

16 April: First of all, thank you to those who remembered this day for me. Celebrating your day with your loved ones and friends never fails to give a fuzzy warm feeling. Thank you for everything even though I did not say it out loud, please do understand that I truly appreciate whatever you all have done for me. What a Day! I've ate 3 different kinds of cake in less than a week, and I'm so glad to say that I've broken a new Record! :D Haha.. Anyways, thank you to the following people who have wished me:

April has been a great month! Went to ECP for cycling while felling off the bike several times because I laughed too much or went into screen saver mode, I've get to chop of my tresses, meet new friends, get to know more of my old friends and have a great time laughing at lame people!

The old is gone, the new has come, welcome to year 3.

I'm so inspired after looking at ANTZ's blog. Just looking at it makes me want to explode out of inspiration. It's so much that I had to take out my pen and start sketching right after looking at his work and a few of the links I went in the blog even when i could feel my 0.8 MICRON pen running low on ink. I'm planning to color them real soon.

There's so many things that I want to do in life, but it's too bad that I couldn't do everything all at once because time and money isn't on my side especially when school term starts. However, here are somethings that would like to do that aren't work related:

diving,
cycling from home to other parts of singapore,
holidaying overseas with my family.....etc

1st of April is the day where human beings start to prank one another and I'm so GLAD that I managed to prank a few of them. :D

SUNDAY:
Had my friend taught me how to use one of those professional looking camera on sunday. Honestly there's so much to remember at one go. After that, I brought my new camera to Chinese Garden and shoot like crazy under the blazing hot sun. Pardon my nooby photographing as it's my first time doing it.

MONDAY:
Had bbq at fid's house and soon after that, we had horror movie marathon. Are those shows really horror shows? Hahaha....ok, i did get SHOCKED at the part where the lift door opens and somba's face was up close, but that was it. I'll prefer comedy shows any day.
